Although it remains unclear how serious the White House is about the proposal, the prospect of a Syrian invasion has raised alarms in Lebanon \u2014 and also in Israel, which regards al-Sharaa\u2019s Islamist-led government with suspicion and\u00a0has seized control of a strip of southern Syria\u00a0since he took power.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Syria has also become the site of rising tensions between\u00a0Israel and Turkey\u00a0\u2014 a main backer of al-Sharaa\u2019s government \u2014 with each seeking to limit the other\u2019s influence in the neighboring country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
