Hawaii’s most severe flooding in 20 years is threatening a dam, prompting evacuations, as more rainfall approaches. Due to the state’s worst flooding in over two decades, Hawaiian officials urged residents in hard-hit areas to evacuate on Saturday. This follows a heavy downpour that fell atop rainwater already accumulated from a winter storm a week earlier, with even more rain expected over the weekend. Muddy floodwaters inundated large sections of Oahu’s North Shore—a community renowned globally for its big-wave surfing. The surging floodwaters swept away homes and cars, prompting an evacuation order for 5,500 people north of Honolulu, although the order was subsequently lifted. Authorities have warned that a 120-year-old dam is at risk of failure.
